She has an on-off romantic relationship with her beau Ken (Ken Carson), who first appeared in 1961. Like Barbie, Ken shares his name with one of Ruth Handler's children

Inspired by ball gowns of the American Colonial period and based off a now-defunct Butterick pattern. Pocket hoops are made off of the JP Ryan pattern. The bodice is boned. The over-petticoat is pleated and the under-petticoat has a draw string waist. Bodice The gown took about 5 hours to construct, and the pocket hoops took about 1.5 hours.

Fabric: Purple cotton floral, purple satin, white muslin, off-white muslin

Trim: Purple satin ribbon, white cotton lace, plastic boning, wood boning, white draw string, silver grommets
